Antequera’s Holy Week is one of the most traditional and deeply rooted in Andalusia. The artistic quality of its images is on a par with the finest examples of the baroque period. The images are carried in procession by “hermanacos” or members of the brotherhood, who inherit their place as bearers from grandfather to grandson. Some of the processions are particularly spectacular when they race their way up steep hills.

The spring fair is held on the last day of May and the first two of June and the last day in July a night of flamenco is held. The patron saint, “Nuestra Señora de los Remedios”, is celebrated on September 8th and in August the “Real Feria” is held with top class bullfighters appearing at the Bull Ring. |
